"Arctic Machine" | Blender Art Contest

This is a scene that I made for a 3D art contest held in the Blender community server. The theme for May 2019 was "Arctic Machine" and this is what I made in accordance to the given theme. It took me about 2 weeks to make it, though I didn't work on it as my main project and only worked on it in my free time.

I also made a video breaking down this scene. If you're interested, you can check it out here:- https://youtu.be/cbjB1_3th8k

The final render with 4096 samples! Definitely overkill!

First block-out of the scene. I thought of making a huge portal which leads to another planet (or something).

After I decided the main composition of the scene. Also made massive changes to the terrain and the model itself.

Started working on the materials a little more. The displacement looked very wrong so I decided to dump it.

Made more changes to the model. Changed the design of portal gateway. I was still confused with the colors.

This is when things started taking shape. Changed the colors to a cooler tone and also added the foggy look.

Last second render before I added all the details. Added some color accents and fixed the compositing inside Blender.
